Thrilling Hike in Interlaken, Switzerland

As someone with a thirst for adventure, I was very happy to learn that there’s a steep hiking trail in Interlaken. It’s a marked hiking trail that snakes up all the way from the Interlaken train station to Harder Kulm.

The trail is just upwards of 4 kilometres (2.54 miles) and takes an amateur hiking nearly two and a half hours to reach the restaurant at the summit 1322m above sea level.

There’s an entire network of interconnected hiking trails that lead to and from Harder Kulm. The trails are thoroughly marked as mountain trails T2. The hike ranges from amateur to intermediate skill level and the locals crowd on the mountain looking for a workout.

I was thrilled for the hike and in my excitement, I opted out of the train and hiked to the top of Harder Kulm. My legs were still sore but I managed to convince myself to stroll along the “Elfenwag” (Elves Path).

It’s a beautiful, romantic clearing style trail that takes an hour to complete and leads you right to the restaurant at the summit. You can hike back down but I’d rather take the train down after enjoying a delicious meal at the restaurant.

It’s a relatively easy hike and the views of the town from the top are worth every sweat drop and muscle cramp. Just make sure to wear the world’s most comfortable shoes, carry lots of water and eat dinner before well 11 pm as the last train for the city departs at 11.
